Getting married is a special occasion that we love to share with our family and friends. We look forward to saying yes surrounded by everyone we love. Traditionally, therefore, Saturday remains the most popular day to get married. For many couples, it seems an obvious choice, although we have seen a fascinating trend emerge in recent years. A growing number of couples are discovering the advantages of getting married on Fridays. Lies De Haes and Nicolas Boehlen of wedding venue Hof ter Delft give you three reasons to organise your big day on a Friday.

Intimate ceremony in place one
‘In 2024 in Hof ter Delft,we see many more requests coming in for a Friday wedding,’ Lies jokes. "More and more couples are moving away from the “classic” wedding, leaving out the ceremony in church. They opt for a personal and intimate ceremony and it can take place at any time of the day."
‘In the Netherlands, Friday has always been the most popular day,’ Nicolas continues. "That trend is now also coming more and more to Belgium. Many couples opt for a civil wedding with close family and they are entitled to a day's leave. So this can be done perfectly during the day. In the evening, they organise a romantic ceremony with everyone in our garden, followed by the reception, dinner and finally: a smashing dance party."
Smart budget choices
Nicolas: ‘Couples used to go to the town hall in the morning for the civil wedding, at noon the ceremony took place in the church, around 3pm there was an elaborate reception and in the evening a big dinner with family and friends. Of course, this came with a price tag. Today, a lot of couples choose a more intimate dinner, or a barbecue or sharing dishes. Later in the evening, friends and acquaintances also come to the venue for the dance party."
‘Saturday was traditionally always the most requested day; typically the venue rental price was higher then,’ adds Lies. "On weekends, for example, staff are also more expensive, .... Those who opt for a Friday wedding keep more budget to createa personal look and feel ."
Today is the day
‘Once engaged, couples want to celebrate their love,’ says Lies. "The sooner the wedding party can take place, the better off they sometimes are. The chances that the party room of your dreams is still free are higher on a Friday than on a Saturday."
‘Finally, people have a lot of family commitments on a Saturday,’ Nicolas says. "If you get married on a Friday, your guests don't have to completely rearrange their schedule, and often everyone of your friends and family can be there. Even better: those who hang out on the dance floor until six in the morning have two days to recuperate,’ he winks.
