Do you feel uncomfortable when a camera is pointed at you? Maybe just let your favourite photographer know already. You will get to know him or her little by little anyway, through your introductory meeting and your subsequent contacts. Explain that you feel a little insecure in front of the lens. After this, together you can look for solutions or ways to make you feel more comfortable.
Build your self-confidence
There are also some tricks we can give you that will boost your confidence. Start with some natural poses, where you don't look directly into the lens. Or find your lover's eyes, and let this fun moment guide you. Forget about that other ‘person with camera’. And before your official photo shoot takes place soon , you can do some practice at home. Stand in front of the mirror and look at yourself - get used to your own image. Practice makes perfect!
Plan an engagement shoot
Before you start the ‘real’ work on your wedding day, you can book an engagement shoot. Think of it as a symbolic test run, during which you will get to know your photographer better and calm down in his or her environment. This will give you an idea of what will be expected of you on your big day. Put on a nice outfit of your choice, preferably one you feel good in. Listen carefully to the tips and instructions the professional gives you.
Act natural
When you feel nervous, both your posture and your face change. However, the last thing you want Is to lose that beautiful smile into a forced grin. Relax your body and mind, act natural and don't think too much. Relax!
Focus on your beloved
There is probably no one in the world with whom you feel more comfortable than your fiancé. Make eager use of this during your photo shoot. Recall some funny memories together, or dream together about that beautiful honeymoon that is coming up. Enjoy each other's company. You will undoubtedly see this strong connection in every photo afterwards!
Silke from Imperish Photography gives us an insight into how she approaches this: "I always try to give my couples assignments. The idea is that they take time to be with each other. A bit of dancing, walking, lifting each other up, looking into each other's eyes.... As long as they are engaged with each other. This way, the photos will come across as very natural and spontaneous. No one has to feel uncomfortable!"
Have fun and be yourself
Perhaps most importantly: be yourself! Your wedding day is a day that revolves entirely around you and your love. So it is absolutely your and your moment to be in the spotlight. Enjoy every moment and have fun. Just think the camera away... the spontaneous images will surely come naturally!
