1. Helping with the organisation

Well begun is half won. The same goes for a wedding. Wedding planning and organisation are the key to a stress-free wedding day, for the couple and for all of you. So be sure to ask your son and future daughter-in-law or son-in-law where they could use your help, or suggest some tasks that seem right up your alley. In our wedding planning checklist you will certainly find some ideas that you can take on as the mother of the groom.

2. Drawing up the guest list

Do you think the couple overlooked some guests? That's why it might be nice for the couple to suggest they go over the final guest list together - especially if you as parents wish to invite guests yourself. You can help obtain missing addresses of guests and -a little later- contact guests who have not yet replied for their RSVP.

3. Help fulfil the groom's duties

As the mother of the groom, you can advise and assist your son. He will have quite a few tasks on his to-do list , and who knows, he may need your help with these all too well. You might think of details that would escape him, or remind him of certain deadlines.

4. Choosing his wedding outfit

Do you find it strange when we mention that a groom often likes to ask his mother to accompany him to the designer or shop to choose his wedding suit? Especially when couples like to surprise each other with their wedding attire, his favourite partner in crime is often his mum. But even if the future partner comes along to choose the wedding suit, the mother of the groom often accompanies the couple.

5. Making a top-notch breakfast on his Big Day

Many couples love the tradition of sleeping separately the night before their wedding party. So when your son sleeps at home, as the groom's mother, you can provide that top-notch breakfast that will keep him on the road all day! Avoid coffee and chocolate as soon as he puts on his shirt, though....

6. ...And getting him to bed on time the night before!

Nothing like spending that last night as a bachelor together, cosily chatting together and reminiscing by the fireplace. Is he threatening to miss his hours of sleep? Then as the groom's mother, you are the perfect person to point him towards bed.

7. Escorting the groom down the aisle

However, your most important task as a mother of the groom is to accompany your son to the altar during the wedding ceremony. You may experience these steps as very emotional - another huge intimate bond with each other. Enjoy every step you take and be proud when he kisses you goodbye!
