Accessories to 'complete' your wedding dress

That your wedding dress totally speaks for itself and ensures that you shine, we don't need to explain anymore. Both your dress and that beautiful diamond around your finger are undoubtedly the centre of attention, but that's not all. These 5 accessories will complete your wedding dress and your entire look.

Shrouded shoulders

For cooler days or evenings, or at a church service with a strapless wedding dress, a scarf or shawl around your shoulders is ideal. Choose one that is wide enough so you can drape it loosely around your upper body, and make sure the colour choice is matched to the colour of your dress. If the days are already quite chilly, go for a dress with sleeves or a matching bolero jacket. A (fake) fur is also a stylish option for premium accessories with your wedding dress.

Beautiful from head to toe

Consider incorporating a tiara or veil into your bridal hairstyle. Both can go with both short and long hair. Make sure you match the fabric and colour choice of your veil to your dress. Keep in mind that long(er) veils look a bit more classic and formal, and short veils look more playful and retro. If veils and tiaras are not quite your thing, you can incorporate a flower into your party hairdo or go for a garland in a updo . Here, choose flowers that you will also find in your bridal bouquet. Your hairdresser will undoubtedly know how to match these accessories perfectly with your wedding dress.

Glitter & glamour

That engagement ring and wedding band have long been chosen, but take a moment to consider other jewellery too. Subtle earrings if your hair is combed back or put up, a delicate necklace if your dress has an open neck and a bracelet that matches the earrings and necklace. Choosing the perfect wedding dress accessories is crucial.

Less is more? Definitely! Choose from one of the three. The rule is: no excess. Your dress and your ring take centre stage, these accessories are the extra pretties.

If the shoe fits...

What is a more important accessory to your wedding dress than your shoes? They are the finishing touch to your outfit. Most bridal shops have a few pairs of shoes for you to choose from. That way, your stylist can immediately suggest a few to go with your dream dress. If you buy your shoes elsewhere, make sure you have your shoes with you at every fitting after you have chosen your wedding dress, so that the length of your dress or skirt can be trimmed to heel height.

And match the colour of your shoes to the colour of your dress. You can ask the bridal shop for a small piece of fabric that you can take with you on your shoe hunt. Although we are increasingly seeing brides just going for a contrasting colour for their shoes.

Also, go for wedding shoes that you feel comfortable in. A high heel is perfect if you know of yourself that you can step on these for several hours anyway. You can also bring a pair of extra, flat shoes for the dance party.

And finally, consider the time of year. In late spring, summer and early autumn, open toes can be perfect, but during the rest of the year, think about closed-toed or elegant booties.

Singing in the rain!

We don't wish it on anyone, but in our little chilly country, we do have to take it into account: what if it rains? Make sure there are umbrellas nearby. An indispensable item on a rainy wedding day, it is also a matching accessory to your wedding dress thanks to a successful colour match. You don't have to hold one, of course. That's a job for the master of ceremonies!
