Here's how to brief the photographer at your wedding party

The photographer will immortalise your wedding day from A to Z. The make-up, the first look, the vows, the opening dance, your romantic photo shoot and even the small, loving details will be captured on film. To make sure the photographer can capture your entire story in the best possible way, you need to provide him with the necessary information. In this article, we will teach you how to brief the photographer at your wedding.

Your script

Nothing like preparing and executing your wedding party with a detailed script. Walk through all parts of your wedding day and ceremony with your wedding photographer beforehand, and discuss with her or him the moments, poses and shots you definitely want to see immortalised. In which settings will the photos be taken, in how many places, indoors and/or outdoors?

Your story

Your photographer will be hot on your heels on the most important day of your life. Therefore, it is important for this professional to get to know you better so she/he knows what to look out for. Your wedding photographer should be able to step into your world and understand the essence of your love. Talk about how you got to know each other and where the spark went. This way, the wedding photographer gets a clear picture of who you are which can create a special connection between you as a couple and the professional, making it easier for her or him to deliver a beautifully finished product.

Your list

You may have been dreaming away at those Instaproof wedding photos on social media for months. Yet most of these may have been staged. Therefore, be prepared and write a short scenario for your photographer. Make a list of the photos that for you should definitely not be missing from your wedding party. A picture of the dress, the shoes, the make-up of the bride, ... You are sure to find plenty of inspiration.

Tip: Discuss with your photographer whether he or she is open to this. Some wedding photographers work their magic in images that are not too posed.

Your book of faces

Whether you are having a big wedding party or an intimate ceremony, you would like all your loved ones to be by your side on your big day. You may know all your guests very personally, but to the photographer they are basically strangers. Therefore, create a face book with a list of photos, names and the connection the most important guests have with you as a bride and groom. This way, your wedding photographer can recognise some faces and names beforehand and it is clear who should definitely not be missing from the photo.

Your preparations

Think about whether you would like to have a photographer nearby when you get ready in the morning with your closest family and best man(s) nearby. Maybe you'd also like to provide one of those cute silk dressing gowns with elegant ‘Bride’ letters on them? Tip: make sure the setting is neat and tidy when your photographer arrives, so he or she can really add value thanks to those extra beautiful ‘making of’ photos!
