1. Think beforehand

Before your first appointment with your pastry chef, think about what you want. Look at the different options and think about which flavours, colours and styles fit your theme. You may even want to make a mood board so that your cake designer understands perfectly what you mean.

2. Consider your budget

It sounds obvious, but still: think about your budget in advance. That way you will have a better idea of what is possible and what is not, and you can make more targeted choices. Ask your favourite wedding cake caterer what options are possible within your budget.

3. Provide the perfect amount

Discuss carefully with your cake baker how many guests there will be and what your catering concept is for the rest of the dinner. Your pastry chef, with all his experience, will be able to judge how much cake to provide.

4. Order your wedding cake on time

You want to make sure your favourite baker is still available for your wedding date. Therefore, contact your pastry chef well in advance - ideally six months before your wedding - so they can deliver your dream wedding cake. After all, a cake baker has a limited number of orders they can take, so be sure to order on time!

5. Personalise your wedding cake

Make it a personal wedding cake that suits you. Let your pastry chef add details that refer to your (shared) interests or passions, or to your wedding theme, for example. Your cake baker will make sure that all the elements fit together beautifully and add to the overall picture.

6. Make clear agreements

Discuss in detail with your caterer what your dream cake looks like. If necessary, show photos of what you have in mind and have your professional pastry chef make sketches of the cake. This way, you will both have the same vision for the cake and you will be assured of your dream cake at your wedding. Also make clear agreements about the day itself: let the exact number of guests know in good time, ask if your supplier will deliver the cake and set up the whole setting, possibly take care of cutting and handing out the cake, ... That way you know exactly what to expect.
