How to travel to Bora Bora?

For a long time, Bora Bora was the only international airport in French Polynesia, but large aircraft couldn’t land there. In 1962, the airport in Papeete on Tahiti opened. Since then, you can fly from Papeete to the local Bora Bora Airport in just under an hour.
From Brussels, count on at least 30 hours of flying to cover the distance to Bora Bora (15,500 km). Depending on the number of stopovers along the way, the journey can take anywhere from 30 to 50 hours. That’s why it’s recommended to depart from Paris. Once you arrive in Polynesia, you can easily reach Bora Bora with a local flight with Air Moana or Air Tahiti, by speedboat, or by seaplane. The latter can drop you off right in the bay where you’re staying.

Just so you know...
Safety is assured on Bora Bora—only mosquitoes can disturb your heavenly peace. Heading to Bora Bora for your honeymoon? Take a few precautions against mosquito bites.
Given the tropical climate of these islands, it’s also best to bring products to protect against sunburn and dehydration.
The best time to travel for your honeymoon in Bora Bora

Bora Bora has a tropical rainforest climate, which means most rainfall occurs during our winter months. That’s when you can encounter tropical storms and hurricanes, and there can be quite a bit of rain.
So it’s best to go from April through October. Temperatures hover around 30°C all year round, but during the dry season, averages are closer to 25°C. High season runs in June, July, and August. From March to June, plane tickets are slightly cheaper.
The best activities during your honeymoon in Bora Bora
Having a picnic

A romantic picnic on a motu—a small uninhabited islet—is a must during your honeymoon in Bora Bora. Local fishermen are more than happy to take you to these little islands. On some motus, you can even camp. It’s the perfect way to fully unwind and enjoy a private island experience together.
Relaxing in the sun
Need some downtime when you arrive in Bora Bora? Spend a few days in a gorgeous overwater villa under the sun. Take a stroll along the idyllic beach at the southern tip of the island, hop aboard a catamaran, or treat yourself to a massage at your hotel’s spa. Honeymooning done right!
Explore the island from the water or from the air

There are plenty of ways to explore the island from the water. Start with your own canoe, hop on a catamaran, book a cruise, or discover all the lagoons on a single or double jetski. If you’d rather admire this exotic gem from the air, a helicopter is ready and waiting.
Discover the culture
You’ll notice the sweet scent the moment you arrive on the island—proof that many locals preserve their old traditions and culture. Love a relaxed-chic style? Head to the local markets and buy a locally made “pareo”.
Enjoy French Polynesian cuisine
Savor local delicacies during magical sunsets. Be sure to try bougna, a local dish of fish or meat marinated in coconut milk, sweet potato, yam, and taro. Enjoy this dinner served on a traditional Polynesian outrigger canoe.
The vibrant underwater world

You can dive and snorkel here among rays and sea turtles. They’ll approach you with great curiosity; they are very safe. The most special guest in the sea is the giant manta, a type of manta ray that will playfully spread its underwater wings toward you. There are also plenty of sharks, but they are not dangerous! So after your honeymoon in Bora Bora, you can definitely tick swimming with sharks off your bucket list.
Adventure activities
Looking for something more active? Explore Bora Bora on horseback or by quad bike. Together, cross the heart of the jungle or the peaks of Mount Popoti. Or choose a guided tour and learn everything about Bora Bora.
