How to travel to Mauritius?

A flight to Mauritius takes 12 to 15 hours, depending on your travel plan and any layovers. The time difference with Belgium is fairly limited: 2 hours in summer, 3 hours in winter. You’ll need a passport that’s valid for six months, and for a stay of less than a month you’ll receive a free visa stamp in your passport upon arrival. With buses and taxis, you can easily get around the entire island, but in most cases your travel agent will be waiting for you at the airport.
For up-to-date travel advice, you can always consult the website of Belgian Diplomacy. It’s also useful to register on the Travellers Online website.

Best time to travel for your honeymoon in Mauritius

The best time for your honeymoon in Mauritius is actually quite flexible. Temperatures there range between 24 and 31°C throughout the year. Tropical Mauritius does have two seasons: one “hot and wet” from November to April, and another that’s slightly milder and drier, from May to October. The best travel period is therefore likely between May and October, because there’s the least rain and nature is at its most beautiful. This is especially important if you want to go hiking or are planning an outdoor activity. The two warmest months are January and February, with averages around 30°C. November to April are perfect for beach holidays, because swimming and snorkeling are best when the water is warm (28°C). There are also some regional differences in the island’s tropical character. The east coast is hotter and more humid than the west.
The best activities during your honeymoon in Mauritius
Relaxing on the beach – Trou Aux Biches
Do you mainly want to unwind in Mauritius? Then you can choose from some of the most beautiful beaches. Mauritius’ white-sand beaches are world-famous and compete with one another in every corner of the island. In the north you’ll find Trou aux Biches, known for its swaying palm trees and colorful coral reef.
Flic & Flac

On the west coast lies the eight-kilometer-long sandy beach of Flic & Flac. This is a favorite spot for surfers, and for romantic souls who love to admire the fabulous sunset here in the evening— a perfect ingredient for your honeymoon in Mauritius.
Le Morne Beach
Further southwest, on the Le Morne Brabant peninsula, you’ll find the exceptionally beautiful Le Morne Beach. Green mountains and a pearl-white beach come together in a single snapshot— a stunning backdrop for your honeymoon.
Belle Mare
If you head to the island’s east coast and seek out the small fishing villages, you’ll find a quieter setting. Choose Belle Mare Beach here, nearly five kilometers long. A unique place to experience a romantic sunrise early in the morning, just the two of you.
Snorkel and dive with colorful fish

Snorkel or dive into the crystal-blue sea. A colorful landscape of swaying coral reefs, giant turtles, and clownfish awaits you. Tropical reef fish and rays will look you in the eye in this magical underwater world.
Spot dolphins on a catamaran tour
Head out to sea on a boat or catamaran and see dolphins in their natural habitat. With a bit of luck, you might even spot a few whales here. Time for a whale selfie?
Discover nature in the national parks
Do you like heading inland? Then be sure to visit one of the major national parks, such as the Black River Gorge National Park. In this park you’ll discover the “rainbow on the ground” of the Seven Coloured Earths—seven colorful dunes. Want something a bit wilder? Then take an unforgettable trip along the trails of the Heritage Nature Reserve: a beautiful off-road adventure along the Riverine Trail that takes you to L’Abbatis des Cipayes, a historic military outpost.
Visit the sugarcane plantations

Not every landscape in central Mauritius requires safari vehicles and 4x4 wheels to cross jungles and waterfalls. The many green sugarcane plantations are freely accessible and can be visited. These plantations are the origin of those delicious mojitos you’ll be offered from day one at the hotel—tasty and sweet, thanks to Mauritius’ tropical climate.
Le Morne Brabant
Don’t forget to visit the island’s far southwest point, because this is where Le Morne Brabant rises up—a monolith emerging from the Indian Ocean. Historically, it is the freedom site par excellence from the 18th and early 19th centuries, as a refuge for escaped enslaved people. Thanks to the site’s great social value, Le Morne Brabant was declared a World Heritage Site over the years. It is now a protected UNESCO monument.
Explore the capital, Port Louis
The capital, Port Louis, definitely has a few fun hours in store for you. Follow a guided street food tour through the maze of lively streets and taste the island’s spicy, authentic dishes. Delicacies from the combined African, Hindi, Creole, and French cuisines are guaranteed to make your mouth water. Recover with a colorful mojito in one hand and an octopus curry in the other.
