Custom-made wedding costumes for women at Café Costume

With six shops (in Antwerp, Ghent, Kortrijk, Bruges and two in Brussels), Café Costume is an established name in our country for tailor-made clothing. Since 15 September 2022, Café Costume also offers tailoring for women. We spoke to Café Costume's Stefan Bussels about the increasingly popular wedding suits for women and the trends in them.

Increasingly popular: wedding suits for women

Stefan from Café Costume adds : "We're seeing more and more women choosing to get married in suits. This is because of the lookthey want, the freedom of movement that suits offer, the price and, above all, the fact that they can reuse their outfit. We also see a lot of brides opting for a combination, wearing a wedding dress to the ceremony, for example, and then moving on to a bespoke suit with loafers for ultimate dancing comfort, for example."

Trends in women's wedding suits

Stefan tells us about popular choices for women's wedding suits: "White, beige, off-white and pastels are often chosen - generally fresh, light and soft colours. Suits are also often more colourful than for men, with pale pink and bright patterns selling very well, for example.
Stefan continues with trends in trousers and suit jackets: "For trousers, women often opt for high waists and wider trouser legs. When it comes tosuit jackets , 'oversized' isstill in fashion for women. Thetrick is to give the jacket an oversized look without making it too big. Thanks to our tailors, we make sure it fits perfectly.

An overview

" You can also come to CaféCostumefor accessories, such as silk scarves and sunglasses. So we always offer you a total experience: our tailors know what would go well with your suit and are happy to advise you on this. For us, it's important that the ensemble is perfect. People often want to add something emotional or personal to a wedding suit. We then look at how we can integrate it perfectly into the overall look.

A different approach for men and women

While the methods of making and working on men's and women's suits are fairly similar, men and women seem to approach their suits differently. Stefan explains : "Women have a specific 'fit' in mind. They are looking for aparticular pair of trousers or a complete look. This way, women are more prepared for their visit and can choose very quickly in the shop. Men, on the other hand, often don't yet know exactly what they want. They may have a preference for a colour, but haven't yet thought about the cut or the details. On the other hand, women often come to the shop earlier to choose their outfit. If the men come a long time in advance, it's sometimes on the advice of their fiancé", explains Stefan with a laugh.

The ideal time to choose your wedding suit

When is the best time to start choosing your suit? Stefan advises: "We always recommend coming to choose three to four months in advance. It depends on the fabric you choose, but we like to have a bit more time to make any necessary adjustments. On your first visit, we ask you a few questions to find out what occasion you'll be wearing the suit for, what you like to wear, what your wedding or occasion looks like, what fabrics suit your body type, your concept and you as a person. Then we record your choices, measure you and schedule the fittings. Usually there are one or two fittings, depending on the alterations you need to make."

Good luck and happy searching!
