Spring

From spring onwards, Mother Nature's first colourful creations exhibit their beauty. For instance, after winter, the first tulips in different varieties and colours emerge. Popular spring flowers are also ranunculus, peonies and the first roses of the year. Peonies are very climate-dependent and you can sometimes only get them for a few weeks.
Our florists' favourite spring flowers? "In spring, I very much like working with peonies," says David from Chou Fleur. Besides peonies, roses are also in demand by Myriam of El Florido: "I like to work with peonies in combination with beautiful roses."
Brides who are fans of blue and purple hues can rely on irises, lilacs, hyacinths, delphiniums or asters in spring. Asters and lilacs also exist in other colours, such as pink or white. Do you like pink? Then the cosmos flower or the fragrant lathyrus might be for you. White colours can be found in gypsophila, lilacs, gardenias, mayflowers or stephanotis, which, by the way, was aptly nicknamed 'wedding flower'.

Summer

Summer is all about 'bright' and 'colourful'. Just think of the colour spectacle of gladioli, dahlias, roses, summer violets and lily varieties such as inca lily and zinnia. Summer also has a lot of large and striking flowers like sunflowers, hydrangeas and callas on offer. Or how about the cheerful, yellow bulbs of the craspedia? And those who say chrysanthemums only belong in a cemetery haven't seen the hardy chrysanthemum! Some spring bloomers such as asters, gardenias, gypsophila and delphinium are also still available in summer. For a nice-smelling bouquet, add freesias or lavender.
Flower stylist Myriam of El Florido shares her favourite summer flower: "I am grateful to work with hydrangeas in the summer period, especially in the month of June."

Autumn

In autumn, with the falling of the leaves and the numerous colours, Mother Nature is at her best. Its colour makes the crocosmia the autumn flower of choice. Autumn is also the season when berries and fruits appear. Some examples for your bridal bouquet are the berry branch, callicarpa and rose hip berries, but also fluffy flowers such as celosia, kniphofia (a.k.a. fire hydrangea), feather hydrangea and silver candle complement your bouquet well. Skimmia and succulents are also perfect for your autumn wedding. The astilbe is a flower that blooms mainly in summer, but also looks beautiful when it has finished flowering. Dhalias, bouvardias and asters can still be found and roses are also available in autumn. Choose continuous-flowering roses such as the David Austin rose, also known as the English rose, or go for spray roses or shrub roses.

Winter

In winter, nature retreats for a while for its hibernation. You can be perfectly creative, though, thanks to flowers and plants like winter heather, amaryllis and lisianthus. Even some tulip varieties are now available in winter. A popular winter flower is the anemone - it fits your 'winter wonderland' theme perfectly. Green material for your bridal bouquet will come from twigs of evergreen trees such as pine, fir and cedar. Eucalyptus with or without buds also looks beautiful. Finally, viburnum or snowball will also complete your bridal bouquet.
Opt for dream flowers in winter, when there are naturally fewer varieties available. However, there are sustainable options even in this season, given a little creativity.
