1. Natural and minimalist
Let's start with the most striking trend in makeup. During the coronavirus pandemic, which was characterized by teleworking and face masks, we often chose to wear little or no makeup. We began to embrace our own natural beauty. And that could well be the main reason for the first trend: a natural party look. Many brides are opting for a natural look with a festive touch, such as some glitter or light highlights. Alissia from Byalis Make-up is also seeing this trend among her clients: “People often go for a less is more look: natural with a light gloss. Personally, I think a natural, romantic bridal look that reflects who you are is also super important!” "The common thread in 2022 is minimalism. And that's exactly what I love to do most!", concludes Lauren from Lauren Bracke Make-up.
2. Radiant skin
On her wedding day, the bride wants to shine (and rightly so!) with a perfect, but also natural look. And that radiant, natural skin requires preparation and quality products. That's why we're also seeing the increasing importance of good skin care. A few tips: don't spend too much money on expensive beauty creams yourself; ask your bridal makeup artist for advice. Start this well in advance, so they can give you all the necessary tips to prepare your skin with the right products. They know which ingredients are good and have usually tested them themselves. In any case, always choose high-quality products. For example, Chanel/Mac are all-rounders and Dior/Bobbi Brown are real winners for skin makeup. 3. Glacé look
To emphasize the natural skin look, a kind of glacé look is often used nowadays, which means: fine, translucent layers on top of each other through which the skin still shines through. Bye bye thick foundation! This glacé look is also used for the eyes: traditional powder eyeshadow is replaced by an eyeshadow stick, and on top of that, for example, a liquid glitter gel is applied, which creates a transparent layer of glitter through which you can still see the eyeshadow. The glacé look also emphasizes the importance of working as healthily, purely, and hydrated as possible.
4. Individual eyelashes
This year's eyelash trend is natural eyelashes with individual eyelash hairs. Brides are moving away from thick, false eyelashes as they prefer a natural look. Now, more one-to-one small eyelashes are being glued between the bride's own eyelashes. Interest in these natural, curly eyelashes is growing among the brides of our makeup artists.
5. Lipstick that suits you
Are you still looking for the perfect color of lipstick to shine on your wedding day? Then we have good news! Thanks to the new trend of virtual try-on, you will undoubtedly find it yourself. With online tools, you can test which lip color suits you best. Take a look at the websites of Chanel, Mac, or Laura Mercier and try out the tools for yourself. These are now also being used to virtually test various other makeup products. Several brides have already discovered these tools and tell our makeup artists which color they have chosen based on the results obtained. It's fun to discover their ideal lip color together and then try it out. Still looking for the trendiest color? Matte lipstick is becoming less and less popular, while shiny lips are becoming more and more popular.”
This way, the makeup is truly tailored to the bride and not limited to one type of color. Nowadays, multifunctional lipstick is often used, such as a moisturizing, tinted lip cream. Finally, there is also a preference for expensive designer brands that launched their own beauty collections during lockdown. The Hermes lip collection is a favorite: Hermes not only has a beautiful design, but also opts for sustainable packaging. Thanks to the refills, you can refill the lipsticks yourself. And that sustainable aspect also fits perfectly with the ecological concerns of our time.
6. Blushing bride
In 2022, the term ‘blushing bride’ can be taken quite literally, according to Lauren. “A beautiful blush on the cheeks is a trend that goes perfectly with this year's more natural, fresh looks,” says Lauren. The idea is to mimic Instagram filters yourself. A natural filter, as it were. Brides often opt for a light, natural blush, similar to an Instagram filter.
7. Go with the theme
This year, couples are increasingly choosing a theme around which to build their wedding. In recent years, there has been more contact between wedding planners and makeup artists. For example, the makeup artist gets to see the script, which is great for getting an overview of the whole package. This allows them to make some nice connections between the styling of the party and the styling of the bride. For example, they can ask what flowers or table decorations will be used, and if they see a certain color recurring in the flowers, they can incorporate it into the look.
8. Instagrammable
Many major beauty brands are heavily invested in Instagram. This means that brides are also increasingly looking for inspiration on Instagram and modeling themselves on runway models with a runway look, such as Gigi Hadid. By drawing inspiration from what they see on Instagram, they are making more daring and extreme choices. Of course, Instagram has its pros and cons. It's great to be inspired, but don't be misled. For example, photos are often edited or filtered. Today's brides want to look as Instagram- or photo shoot-worthy as possible, and to achieve this, makeup artists use, among other things, a transparent powder that catches the light and is therefore ideal for photo shoots.
9. Say yes to the makeup
While tradition says that your wedding dress should remain a secret from your partner, this is not the case with makeup. Partners like to give their approval when choosing the bridal makeup and bridal hairstyle. The partner does indeed find it important that the bride looks radiant, but also that her personality remains recognizable. That's why a trial session is also very useful. You discover which makeup suits you best and you receive personal advice. “If, during the trial, I notice that you have dry skin, for example, you can purchase a bridal care box to prepare your skin for the big day,” says Alissia. 10. Haircare
Finally, we would also like to discuss some fun trends for bridal hairstyles. It is striking that a natural look is usually chosen for the hairstyle as well. To create that natural hair look, it is important that the hair is well cared for. The use of luxurious brands such as Kevin Murphy is ideal for hair care and R+Co BLEU for styling the hairstyle. That way, your hair will shine beautifully all day long! In terms of looks, there are three popular hairstyles that stand out. First, Hollywood waves: a loose hairstyle with beach waves. Secondly, the bohemian look: a half-up bridal hairstyle that gives the impression that it didn't take much effort (but nothing could be further from the truth!). And thirdly, a low bun: “The low bun is a style that makes a statement without detracting from the rest of your ensemble. Less is more,” says Lauren.
