1. Exercising Together
Research shows that working out together is good for your relationship. The shared activity not only strengthens your bond, but it's also fun to stay fit and improve your fitness together. Set a goal, and enjoy the journey as a team.
One warning: keep your 'coaching self' in check. If you're an avid golfer, keep the tips to a minimum, or a date might turn into a "Start to Golf" course...
2. Babysitting
Is there a baby boom among your friends? Give new parents a romantic Valentine's! Offer these young parents a day of peace and time for each other by taking care of their children. Take the kids to the cinema, playground, or amusement park. Fun for all ages, and who knows, you might enjoy it yourselves!
3. Explore Culture
Find out if there's an exhibition you'd like to visit? If art isn't quite your thing, maybe consider watching an alternative film at a small city cinema.
Museums and cinemas are often located downtown, so you can take a walk through the city's beautiful spots after your visit. Make occasional stops for drinks at cozy bars or picturesque cafes. Who said romance and culture can't go hand in hand?
4. Volunteering Together
Contribute to a good cause together! Volunteers are always needed everywhere, and their work is so important. Check with a local aid organization and see if you can help for a day. Interested in a brisk walk? Visit the shelter and take a dog out for a trip. Let the staff know in advance if you’re accustomed to handling dogs, and they’ll help you with your new playmate. Get some fresh air together and do a good deed. Perfect combo!
5. Embrace Your Inner Hipster
Head to a nearby coffee bar to enjoy a flat white, or take your broken blender to the repair café. Instead of a fancy five-course meal, opt for gourmet burgers, or take a bike ride and relax in a cycle café. Enjoy a hip cocktail at a speakeasy bar. So many new concept stores and bars around us – there's something for everyone!
6. DIY Home Project
For those who love home decoration and getting creative, Pinterest always has something to offer. Spend half an hour exploring, and you'll gather countless ideas. Create a fun photo wall, make a small side table from recycled materials, or craft new coasters for your coffee table. Make it a 'together' project!
7. Surprise Abroad
Book a last-minute getaway night! Hotels are often not fully booked on Sundays, so you might enjoy a promotion today or tomorrow. In 3 hours, you can be in Paris, Amsterdam, or London. Why not surprise your partner in the morning with a trip to one of these romantic cities? Consider requesting a day off on Monday?
8. Board Games
Board games are back in style. Invite some friends for a game night or afternoon, and enjoy snacks and drinks for hours of fun. Ultimate nostalgia...
9. Create a Bucket List Together
There’s so much to do and experience together. It only becomes concrete when you put those things on paper. Create a bucket list of everything you want to accomplish and experience together. From the smallest victories to the largest plans! Make it even more concrete by attaching deadlines and displaying the list prominently at home. Seeing your goals every day ensures you won’t forget them in the hustle and bustle.
10. Lazy Day at Home
If none of the previous alternatives appeal to you, take two days off around Valentine's Day and organize a staycation: a vacation at home. You could choose to have a Valentine's breakfast delivered and stay in all day. Relax on the couch in your pajamas, watch your favorite movies or series, and avoid any interruptions. Enjoy it!
