The love of music
For DJ Gert V, his love for DJing started back in his youth at football club Haacht. That’s where he was asked to select the music in the canteen. It quickly became clear he had an ear for great tracks. “Not long after that, the resident DJ at the local youth café asked me to play a replacement set over the weekend,” Gert adds.
“When I was twenty-one, my fellow DJ at the time and I were selected to fill the dance floor with party hits in clubs such as Carré, Versuz and IKON. That’s when my career as a DJ really took off.” Over the years, Gert refined his craft as a disc jockey. His name appeared on countless party flyers, and his passion grew into a full-time hobby.
Focus on wedding parties
After a few years on the club circuit, Gert decided to focus largely on weddings. Gert: “I’m a true all-round DJ, which means I play all styles. That wasn’t always possible in clubs. So when I was asked for the first times to DJ at a wedding, I really enjoyed it.”
“On top of that, I really value the personal interaction with the guests at a wedding party,” Gert continues. “It makes DJing just that little bit more fun.” In addition to weddings, Gert plays in dance cafés such as Per Sempre in Haacht and Bonaparte in Antwerp.
Preparation is half the work
“When I receive an inquiry, it always starts with personal contact,” Gert explains. “Together we align on the first dance, which song the couple wants for cutting the cake, and their general preferences. That way, I get a clear picture of the couple and their expectations.”
Gert: “When the big day arrives, I keep a close eye on the guests’ reactions. For example, I check how they respond to the background music. That already gives a good indication of what I can expect for the dance party.” According to Gert, being able to read people is the most important quality a professional DJ should have.
