This is how you resize a ring (make it bigger)!
When you realize your engagement ring is just a little too loose, unfortunately there isn’t much you can do yourself. You’ll need a professional goldsmith or jeweler for this. Enlarging an engagement ring isn’t as straightforward as making it smaller. To make an engagement ring bigger, the precious metal is stretched slightly. If the engagement ring needs to be increased by multiple sizes, the jeweler or goldsmith will cut it open and add an extra piece of metal. Afterwards, the engagement ring is polished and shined again, so it will look as if nothing ever happened...

Mission Impossible?
Unfortunately, it’s not as easy as it seems. Not all materials are suitable for resizing a ring afterwards, whether larger or smaller. If your engagement ring is made of gold or silver, that’s not a problem at all. If your ring however is made of materials such as, for example, palladium or steel, or if it contains diamonds, it becomes much more difficult. Your engagement ring could break due to the hardness of these materials. There’s also a chance that this procedure could damage your diamonds.
Prevention is better than cure
Of course, it’s better to prevent than to cure. Make sure you have the right ring sizes when you go to the jeweler. Not sure about the size? Then bring one or more rings that your partner often wears and that fit perfectly. Measuring your finger is also easy using a ribbon, string, or measuring tape. Still chose the wrong size? S.O.S., jeweler!
