Why Vietnam?
An ancient pagoda next to a modern skyscraper. Stalls serving steaming noodle soup or a French baguette. Vietnam has its own character and history. This gem in Southeast Asia delivers spectacular landscapes, vibrant cities, world-class cuisine, and rich biodiversity. A country where one moment of wonder leads straight into the next. Doesn’t that sound like music to your ears for the perfect honeymoon?
5 things to do in Vietnam
1. Ha Long Bay
Ha Long Bay literally means “Bay of the Descending Chinese Dragon.” It’s dotted with thousands of limestone islands that rise spectacularly from the ocean. Some of these rocky islands are hollow inside—you can take a small boat into the caves. A few islands are inhabited, but most remain untouched. The natural beauty of Ha Long Bay has earned it a place on the UNESCO World Heritage List—rightfully so.
2. Hanoi
Hanoi is the northern capital of Vietnam and has around 6.5 million inhabitants. It’s the country’s second-largest city after Ho Chi Minh City. Vietnam’s capital is a fascinating blend of old and new, with Chinese and French influences. Visit Hanoi for sights such as the architecture of the Old Quarter and the French Quarter, the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, and the Temple of Literature. But you’ll also come here for culinary highlights and unbelievably delicious street food. Hanoi is exotic, impressive, noisy, trendy, and busy all at once—a full experience for all your senses.
3. Hoi An
From buzzing Hanoi, we head much further south to the picturesque, breathtakingly beautiful town of Hoi An. A must-visit destination thanks to its blend of culture, gastronomy, history, and charm. The beach just minutes from the city center is an added bonus. Visit one of the colorful food markets and let the friendly locals win you over.
4. Hue
History lovers? Then Hue, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is the place for you. Visit the ancient citadel and the many mausoleums, pagodas, and palaces. The Song Huong, or the Perfume River, winds through this historic capital. The river owes its fragrant name to the flowers that fall into the water in autumn and release a pleasant aroma. The northern bank is dominated by the walled Forbidden City—a fort built under Emperor Gia Long in 1805, stretching no less than 5 kilometers along the riverbank. Also visit the many tombs scattered across the city. The Khai Dinh Mausoleum stands out in particular for its detailed mosaic work.
5. Nha Trang
Water lovers should definitely add the seaside town of Nha Trang to their to-do list. Here you’ll find Vietnam’s best beaches and diving spots: white sandy beaches with mountains and the city skyline in the background. You could almost forget you’re in Vietnam—Nha Trang lacks the cultural richness you’ll find in neighboring areas. Avoid the big crowds and seek out peace and quiet at Bai Dai Beach.
