How to travel to Thailand?
Start your honeymoon in Thailand's capital Bangkok, to which there are several ways to fly. Flights usually make a stopover, and take around 13 hours on average. Relax on a luxurious night flight and wake up rested in the bustling capital, ready for your honeymoon. Compare and book the cheapest flights here! Or, fly to Bangkok in luxury with Emirates!
The many domestic flights, train and bus connections make it easy to head north from Bangkok after a few days, to visit the Golden Triangle or head to the sun-drenched beaches of southern Phuket.
Trumps of a honeymoon to Thailand
Thailand offers a scintillating honeymoon for:
- Couples looking to indulge in active or sporting activities;
- Couples who want to experience the ultimate relaxed holiday feeling in luxury resorts, in world-famous beach resorts such as Phuket and Koh Samui;
- Those eager to get to know new cultures;
... Or for couples who want to tick all the above boxes! The extensive options make Thailand a great honeymoon destination.
And: oh yes, your insta-pics here are always successful!
Attention!
Just so you know:
- During the rainy season, heavy showers can fall from the sky during the day. Be sure to bring a rain poncho!
- Thailand is a safe country but in crowded tourist places it is best to carry your backpack on your belly - tip: leave in your hotel safe what you don't necessarily need that day.
- Never drink from the tap in Thailand. Also be careful with ice in drinks when ordering at restaurants.
Best travel time for your honeymoon to Thailand
Choose a good period for your honeymoon in Thailand: the rainy season there starts in June, and ends in October. Most rain falls in August, September and October. To enjoy non-stop sunshine, the best time to travel to Thailand is November to March.
During the rainy season, however, it is less hot, and quieter in the tourist centres - and therefore cheaper. Besides, the rain during these months allows you to see nature in all its splendour. Rice fields sparkle in a deep green coat, the jungle revives fully and gurgling waterfalls form a romantic background sound. The maximum temperature in Thailand does not fall below 30 degrees Celsius all year round!
The best activities on your honeymoon to Thailand
Indulge your senses in Bangkok
Is your plan mainly to rest? Little tip: before heading to the coasts, spend a few days strolling around Bangkok. Admire the sensory morning markets and magical sunsets, stroll from one temple to another, and enjoy the many fish markets, fragrant restaurants and flower stalls along the way.
Don't leave Bangkok without seeing the reclining Buddha, Wat Pho- 46m tall, covered in kilos of gold leaf. You will also always remember the emerald Wat Phra Kaew Buddha in The Grand Palace, the old royal palace. Or visit a traditional tea plantation just outside Bangkok. You'll see tea pickers at work, and high in the mountains you can taste a perfect blend of black and green tea.
Cruise through Bangkok on a Khlong tour
Feast your eyes on a ‘khlong tour’ from a Thai longtail boat that sails through the many small canals, introducing you to local stilt houses and hundreds of small workshops and stalls. Not for nothing, then, that this subtle water network in the heart of Bangkok is called the ‘Venice of the East’! Don't forget to book a dinner cruise on the Chao Phraya River here one evening or dine at one of the many rooftop bars. Enjoy colourful spectacles and shows in this city that never seems to sleep.
Relax in paradisiacal Dewa Koh Chang
A 40-minute flight from Bangkok, on one of the many islets in the Gulf of Thailand, lies a paradise that you will surely also love to visit: Dewa Koh Chang. Here, romantic beach charms meet traditional Thai massage arts.
Actively explore the interior, the islands and the jungle
Do you want to explore beautiful Thailand in an active way during your honeymoon? Then bicycles, scooters and local tuk tuks are the ideal means to set off on your own honeymoon exploration of the interior.
By speedboat or sailing yacht, explore Thailand's surrounding islands. Never-before-seen rock formations, mangrove forests and turquoise caves await you!
Want something a little more adventurous? Then head into Thailand's jungle. Here you will still find elephants in the wild, many species of monkey families, colourful birds and ancient tree species.
Snorkel and dive in one of the world's most beautiful places
On diving expeditions, be surprised by coral reefs and swaying deep-sea grasses and swim past hundreds of exotic fish. Now and then, even some majestic sea turtles will swim with you! Snorkel, paddle in your canoe, swim and dive in these paradisiacal waters. In other words, fully enjoy some of the most beautiful diving spots in the world.
Enjoy a beachy honeymoon on Phuket
Sinking down to the south of the country for a beachy honeymoon in Phuket, Thailand's largest island? Then don't miss a visit to one of the national parks, such as Khoa Sam Roi Yot, the ‘Mountain of the Three Hundred Peaks’. Also, the Tham Phraya Nakhon cave system is always a remarkable experience!
Luxurious hotels dish up local dishes with fresh seafood and native fruits, flavoured with typical Thai spices. Be sure to try the famous pomelo salad (Yum-som-O) and the rich Seafood-Stack (tiger prawns, lobster, squid, large mussels and fried white snapper) here.
Admire the white beaches of the Phi Phi islands
An unforgettable excursion on your honeymoon in Thailand is a visit to the Phi Phi islands. This group of six small islands is located not far from the coast of Phuket. Book a tour on a typical long-tail boat and discover the beautiful and popular Phi Phi islands.
Due to their popularity, you will definitely not be alone on the white beaches. Tip: walk on to the other side of the island and discover beaches with a little more privacy there! For the full experience, book a hotel on the Phi Phi islands and spend a night in the beautiful countryside.
