The 6 cutest engravings for personalised wedding rings

1. Say it with humour

One of the funniest ways to personalise your wedding rings? Opt for an engraving with humour. oen from DE BRUYLOFT explains: "It is great fun to use humour in engraving. More and more couples are doing this. For example, we have already come across an emoji of a ‘laughing kakske’. ok a short, catchy text with humour in it is a very nice idea. ij themselves do not always find the ‘clue’ in these inside jokes, but the couple does, and that is the most important thing."

2. Kiss lips, fingerprint or a paw print

A very personal engraving for your wedding rings: your lover's kiss lips, their fingerprint or a paw print of your pet. Koen: "For kiss lips, you can put a kiss on a white sheet with lipstick. You can have your fingerprint put into the ring in the classic way, but it is also special to stretch the print all the way across the outside of the ring, giving the surface a distinctive look and making it slightly rougher."

"A cat paw print we ask you to take off yourself - there is a bit more risk involved here! With your dog, however, you can come to our shop. We will then rub the paw and put it on a white sheet. If necessary, we touch up the print a little more with Photoshop, then shrink it to the necessary size. This always produces beautiful and unique results. We also give you the image afterwards, and we keep a copy in our archives for if you ever lose the ring."

3. A handwritten text

"Many people write their own text for each other's engraving by hand. Even if it's not so legible or beautifully written, it doesn't bother them - it's in their partner's ring after all!’, laughs Koen. ‘Also, some have their children write the text, to have it engraved in their handwriting.’

4. Diamond details

It's also great fun to have little diamonds placed on the inside of your ring. "These are very small details, like red diamonds placed in a heart shape between your engraved names, or a pink and a blue diamond to represent your daughter and son. Small, but super beautiful. My wife also has beautiful diamonds on the front of her ring like this. And if that doesn't make her happy, she turns her hand around: on the back of her ring she has a smiley face with two diamonds as eyes," laughs Koen.

5. Musical notes of the opening dance

"You can take the first musical notes or a small stanza from your opening dance and have it placed in your rings. What is possible does always depend on the design of your ring; with narrower rings of, say, 2 mm, a stanza is a bit more difficult," Koen explains.

6. Coordinates

Couples also often choose to have meaningful coordinates engraved on their wedding rings. Koen: "These are often coordinates of where they met, where the marriage proposal took place or another important place for the couple, such as their favourite holiday destination. Couples from different countries or continents sometimes have a (half) map of the world spread over their two rings, with a diamond in the place where the partner is from."

Infinite possibilities

And besides that, there are lots of possibilities. Koen says: "Sometimes people can actually come up with really cool things. For example, a couple can also supply an image or parts, or ask us to look for a suitable image, ... . We can adjust this to their wishes, possibly editing it with Photoshop, until we arrive at their ideal engraving. We then place the engraving with a laser; this goes so deep that the engraving is forever firmly in the ring."

There are also new developments all the time. The latest to come are... sound waves! Koen: ‘For this, you speak a message with your voice, which is then engraved across the ring like a (sound) wave so that the surface takes on an organic, undulating shape.’

The most popular engravings

The most popular engraving is still the classic engraving of both your names and wedding date. Koen: "99.9% of the time, your partner's name in your ring is placed first, followed by your name. This classic way of engraving is still the most often chosen today. If you have little ones, you might also like to involve them in your rings, by having them write the names, or adding a hand or footprint of theirs."

In addition, today more and more people are opting for an engraving with a symbolic meaning: ‘A baker couple, for example, have slices of bread engraved between their names. Dentists, in turn, have a molar engraved on it. And other personal items are also often chosen, such as coordinates, a hot air balloon - because that's where the marriage proposal took place, and so on. Symbolism is very popular."
