Romantic with an extra layer of experience
According to our National Wedding Survey, 1 in 3 couples want a romantic trip above all else. What stands out is that in 2026, that romance will often have an extra dimension. From an intimate dinner with a view of the mountains to a boat trip at sunset or spending the night in a tree house in the jungle, it should feel a little extra magical. Couples are looking for honeymoon experiences that they want to share with no one but their partner.
Relaxed travel, well thought out and planned together
A relaxing honeymoon remains popular according to the honeymoon trends of 2026, and couples often take the time to plan it well. Organizing the honeymoon is something couples do together: 74% of couples plan the trip together. 40% hire a travel agency to plan their dream honeymoon down to the last detail.
Popular types of travel in 2026
In addition to romance, couples in 2026 also opt en masse for relaxation (27%) and adventure (20%), whether it's a safari, a road trip, or a food tour with locals. Cultural or sporting trips are slightly less popular.
Budget
According to the National Marriage Survey, most couples spend between €2,000 and €5,000 on their honeymoon. One in ten couples spend more than €8,000 on this unique trip.
Leave immediately or wait a while
35% of couples leave for their honeymoon immediately after the wedding, and 25% leave a week after the wedding. The rest prefer to wait until one month (11%), three months (12%), six months (5%) or a year or more (3%) after the wedding. When couples postpone their big trip, they often go on a ‘mini-moon’ after the party, a shorter trip to get away together for a few days.
The most popular departure times remain June to September, although the number of winter departures is rising slightly. January, April, and December are gaining ground, especially for those who want to escape the Belgian weather in winter.
