1. Check the currency of your holiday destination
Are you going on vacation to a country where the euro isn't used? Then it's wise to look into the currency of your destination. You can exchange some money at home so you don't have to immediately search for an ATM after landing.
Using your card may not be easy everywhere. So, check in advance if you can use it at various places at your destination. If not, it might be helpful to exchange your entire budget before departure. In this case, distribute the bills across multiple bags and suitcases so that if one gets lost unexpectedly, you'll still have enough money with you.
2. Take out travel insurance
Of course, you hope everything goes perfectly during your honeymoon. However, something can always happen. Getting good travel insurance is therefore a must. Often, your luggage is covered for loss or theft with basic insurance, but it may also be smart to look into additional options, especially if you want more assurance for medical costs abroad.
Healthcare abroad
Nothing is more unpleasant than falling ill on vacation, especially on your honeymoon! You don't want to worry about high hospital bills. Your health insurance often covers medical costs abroad, but only up to a certain maximum based on the rates applicable in our country.
Are the healthcare costs higher in your vacation country? Then you'll pay the difference yourself. In many countries, medical costs can be higher than in our country, especially if you end up in a private clinic.
To be well covered against all costs for emergency care abroad, you can take out extra medical coverage through travel insurance. That way, all costs you incur are covered, even if they are more expensive than at home and not fully reimbursed by your health insurance. This ensures you can fully focus on your recovery.
Cancellation insurance
Have you booked your dream trip months ago? Then something unexpected can always come up. With cancellation insurance, you don't have to worry if you have to cancel the trip due to an unforeseen event. This way, you won't bear the costs yourself and can always plan a new trip when it suits you better!
3. Check your passport and tickets
Always double-check your details while booking to ensure they match those in your passport. Even if you want to take your partner's surname on your wedding day, use your own name when booking. Also, check the validity of your passport! In some countries, your passport must still be valid for several months after departure.
Do you only have an identity card? Then make sure it's sufficient for your destination. For European countries like Spain and Italy, you're fine, but for distant destinations, you need a passport.
4. Need a Visa? Arrange it on time
For some countries, it's important to arrange a visa in advance. Do this on time to avoid last-minute stress. Have you booked your trip through a travel agency or a tour operator? They might be able to handle the application for you.
5. Check if you need vaccinations
If you are traveling to an exotic destination, vaccinations might be necessary, such as for hepatitis A, B, or malaria. Check this well in advance so you can travel with peace of mind. Good to know: some vaccinations are covered by your health insurance, so take a look at your policy!
Worry-free honeymoon
