Why choose a wine cellar?
Nowadays, couples in love tend to move in together sooner than they used to. They often buy the necessary furniture and household goods together before their wedding day. Many couples therefore opt to include an ‘envelope’ or bank account number on their invitation, so that they can use the money they receive to go on their honeymoon or finally tackle that long-delayed renovation project.
However, not everyone likes to ask for money, and some guests simply prefer to give a real gift. In that case, starting a wine cellar as a wedding list is a particularly original idea. Your guests can choose how much they want to spend, and you will have a nice number of bottles of wine in your cellar (or wine cabinet) from day one!

How do you start a wine cellar as a wedding registry?
Thomas Declercq of Winevestment, for example, will work with you to put together an extensive selection. Winevestment will explain what a beginner's wine cellar should ideally look like in terms of composition and help you create a nice list: a mix of red and white wines, less expensive bottles and perhaps some more exclusive ones. They will indicate which ones are best drunk sooner and which ones are best left to age for a few years. If your guests want to give a bottle (or several) as a gift, they can also choose from different price ranges. Something for everyone, in other words. Handy! And you know that your cellar will be full of delicious wines!

Four practical tips to keep in mind
Choose the right space: It's handy to have a real cellar to build a wine cellar, but it's not really necessary. Find a space in your home that is dark, vibration-free, slightly humid (or place a container of water in the space), slightly cool, and free of unpleasant odors. For example, a cupboard under the stairs, an old (sideboard) cupboard, or a dresser. Also try to avoid large temperature fluctuations. Or install a special wine cabinet that keeps your wines at the desired temperature. These cabinets come in different sizes, depending on the amount of wine you have or the space available in your home.
Make your choice: It is important that you decide for yourself, possibly with the help of your wine merchant, which wines you want to have at home. Wines that can be drunk quickly, or wines that you prefer to leave for a long time. In any case, choose wines that you like.
Sort your bottles: Know where each bottle is! Sort the wine in a way that makes sense to you, so that you can easily find everything and don't have to constantly pick up bottles looking for the right one.
Keep a (paper or digital) logbook: If you store a lot of wine, it's best to keep a logbook. In it, you can note what you have, where the bottles are stored, where you bought the wine, what the ideal storage time is, and what dishes you can serve the wine with.
