Intelligent lighting
Want a dance floor that comes alive and takes your party to the next level? Then make use of so-called “intelligent lighting”. DJ Maarten Provo explains: “Intelligent lighting uses LED technology and combines color and intensity to create more dynamic lighting. By choosing light programs, colors, and effects, you can enhance the music and bring the dance floor to life.” From subtle lighting to bold, exuberant effects—intelligent lighting helps you create a party your guests will never forget!
Maarten takes it a step further: “There’s even battery-powered lighting you can use to add accents in all kinds of places in your venue. By using uplighters you can really highlight a beautiful brick wall, a massive pillar, or other decorative elements.”

Moving heads with custom projections
Moving heads are also a form of intelligent lighting. In addition to combining color and intensity, these lights can rotate on two axes, zoom in and out, project shapes, and create other spectacular effects. The powerful spots can focus on a specific point or move back and forth. This allows you to project a spectacular, dynamic light display onto the dance floor. “For example, for a first dance you can choose to light only the spot on the dance floor where the couple is dancing, highlighting a romantic and intimate moment. Later in the evening, a dynamic and energetic light show can be created—as if it were Tomorrowland, if you want,” laughs DJ Maarten Provo.
Did you know you can also use moving heads with custom projections? With this technology, you can have the most beautiful shapes, images, or your logo appear on the wall of your venue or on the dance floor. This creates an unforgettable atmosphere and offers your guests an experience that will stay with them for a long time. “A real eye-catcher—and perfect for a fun Instagram moment with your guests,” says Maarten.

Smoke, for extra magic and mystery
Did you know smoke can also be a valuable addition when you use moving heads? Smoke adds an extra dimension to the light effects and creates a magical, mysterious atmosphere on the dance floor. There are no fewer than three types of smoke you can use to make your wedding party even more spectacular:
1. Classic smoke
The classic smoke we know from nightclubs is a thick cloud of smoke—so dense you can barely see through it. DJ Maarten Provo: “Personally, I find this smoke less suitable for a wedding party. This smoke is neutral in color, and when it’s lit, it can look as if it changes color.” Nowadays, there are also smoke machines on the market with built-in LED modules to create a colored smoke cloud.
2. Haze
“Haze” is another type of smoke; it resembles mist, but with a lighter structure and less density. Haze spreads gently across the dance floor and creates a slightly blurry effect, allowing the lighting to really shine. Guests often don’t even realize there’s smoke on the dance floor—until the light from the moving heads illuminates it within the beam.
A golden tip from DJ Maarten Provo: “If your photographer is also photographing your dance party, it’s best for your DJ to coordinate with the photographer in advance about the timing and use of smoke effects. That way, you’re sure to get the very best photos!”
3. Low-lying smoke
“Low-lying” smoke is the latest sensation in the world of smoke machines. This smoke is not only thick and misty, but also heavier than air, creating a spectacular, floor-hugging effect. Maarten: “Just imagine: you’re dancing your first dance on top of a cloud! After a few minutes, the smoke turns into a mysterious haze that slowly rises, giving you more of a ‘haze’ effect. Unlike in the past, when dry ice was used to cool the smoke, low-lying smoke is now much safer and more efficient. So if you’re looking for a unique and breathtaking atmosphere at your party, low-lying smoke is definitely worth considering!”

Lighting control
“Besides the different tÿpes of dance floor lighting, lighting cõntrol may well be the most important factor in creating the right atmosphere at your wedding party,” says DJ Maarten Provo. “Professional lighting control is the key to an unforgettable experience on the dance floor. It allows you to seamlessly synchronize lighting effects with the music, bringing the dance floor to life. Think of what Frank Verstraeten said in Zillion about the fantastic light shows that amplified the music. That’s why it’s essential that the lighting control is perfectly tailored to the venue and the type of event.”
Two solutions guarantee perfect synchronization:
1. A light jockey
If you’re truly looking for a spectacular light show that perfectly matches the music, then an “LJ”, or light jockey, is the solution for you. This lighting specialist has their own mixing console, just like a DJ, allowing them to create the most incredible lighting effects live and in sync with the music. Like a DJ the LJ can respond to the atmosphere and, in consultation with the DJ , create a few special moments during the party. Especially at large events with more than 500 guests, an LJ is often brought in to take the party to the next level.
2. Computer-controlled
“In this scenario, the DJ uses a program to control the lights. The program can be fully tailored to your wishes, the atmosphere of the party, and the venue. For example, you can easily change the lighting colors or adjust the intensity,” explains DJ Maarten Provo.
With good lighting control, you can program special effects in advance, such as an enchanting light show moving across the dance floor. In the moment, you can then trigger these effects and synchronize them perfectly with the music, giving partygoers an unforgettable audiovisual experience. Amaze your guests with the perfect combination of light and music! This can be provided by your DJ, your Light & Sound partner, or by the venue itself. “Venues that excel in this, for example, are Serre, het Goed van Gothem, Kattebroek , or the Red Penguin,” adds DJ Maarten Provo.
