How to travel to Bali?
There are no direct flights to Bali from Belgium. Count on a 16-20 hour flight with a stopover in Dubai, Hong Kong, Singapore or Kuala Lumpur. Tip: plan a stopover of a day or two to these destinations, then you will also get a taste of the vibrant life in these metropolises. You land in the south of Bali at Denpasar airport, a few kilometres from the popular Uluwatu. The time difference with Brussels is 6 hours later.
The benefits of a honeymoon in Bali
Bali has a very rich culture and sunny beaches. There is something for everyone during your honeymoon. Your flight itself can be somewhat pricey, but Bali itself is actually a pretty cheap island. Once you walk through the small streets of the cities, you'll quickly discover that food, activities and renting a scooter or car won't take a big bite out of your honeymoon budget here.
Beware!
Just so you know:
The months of July, August and September are very busy in Bali; in fact, world tourism likes to take over the island then. This means: pricey flights and hotels, and crowded everywhere, so booking your trip in advance is advisable.
Beware also of driving without an international driving licence, which is required to rent a scooter!
Best travel time for your honeymoon to Bali
Bali has a tropical climate that maintains a pleasant constant heat of 28° to 30° C. The dry season extends between April and October; the other months fall in the rainy season. In itself, no drama at all when rain falls here: the short, strong gusts of rain usually stop after midday or fall at night. What blossoms afterwards is a wondrous nature revived in all its vigour.
What to do during your honeymoon in Bali
Pura Besakih
Pura Besakih is one of the very largest and oldest temple complexes, therefore also called ‘Mother Temple’. Here you will see unimaginably handsome architecture situated on the flanks of a still-active volcano, accessible via a long staircase. An absolute must for your Insta-pics!
Tanah Lot
Then again, the temple of Pura Tanah Lot is located on the west coast of the sea, a beautiful 16th-century sea temple that you can only reach on foot at low tide. It is perhaps Bali's most photographed temple, unforgettable at sunset! This sunset is the perfect reason to book a trip to Tanah Lot.
Ubud
If there is one central place from which to organise your excursions it is Ubud, the artist village and cultural heart of Bali. Especially here, you can try original yoga, meditate, get back to yourself and do some digital detox. Not far from the centre of Ubud is the forested Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary, a wondrous home to hundreds of cheeky monkeys that watch you as you stroll full of antics. Tip: combine a trip to this forest with the Bali Swing?
Tegalalang rice terraces
A 15-minute drive from Ubud are the famous Tegalalang rice terraces, one of Bali's most visited spots. You can just walk through them and slowly make your way down - a wonderful experience, especially at sunset.
Nusa Penida
Nusa Penida is guaranteed to have passed you by on Instagram. This beautiful beach is worth a visit for that one photo alone. Beware, the road to the beach is not the easiest! Nusa Penida is also worth a visit if you like to plan a snorkelling trip, even if it's just for one day. The chances of immediately seeing the impressive giant manta rays swimming in the water right next to and below you are particularly high there. You will also immediately discover the world's most colourful coral reefs, tropical fish and sea turtles.
Tegenungan waterfall
During your honeymoon in Bali, take a dip in the cool waters of the Tegenungan waterfall near Ubud and immerse yourself in the wondrous mystery hidden in nature here. Especially make sure you can dive into this waterfall early in the morning, because: the later in the day, the more crowds!
Bali Swing
Butterflies in the stomach - not only thanks to your partner, but also thanks to the well known Bali Swing. The Bali Swing has four swings in the green rainforest, the tallest of which goes up to 78 metres high! Go early in the morning to get ahead of the crowds, and to experience the soft light of the sun on the radiant nature. Book your Bali Swing outing here!
Balinese massages
Also make time for a massage with herbal stamps, body scrub and an exotic flower bath. With a tasty iced tea just before the massage, and a cup of ginger tea with a sweet Balinese pastry afterwards. A must do during a honeymoon in Bali!
Culinary Bali
Traditional Balinese dishes of steamed or roasted chicken or duck enriched with Betutu spices are not easily forgotten. Bali, by the way, has made a lot of progress in recent years for the vegetarians and vegans among us. Trendy restaurants, coffee bars and local street food will make your heart beat faster. Canggu is the place to be for the culinary lover! Dozens of iconic dishes and desserts will keep you a guest for as long as possible on this fantastic ‘island of many gods’!

I'm going on my honeymoon to Bali and I'm taking....
Bali has a tropical climate that you best prepare for. Don't forget your beach outfit and bring your best walking shoes if you want to climb volcanoes, walk through rice fields or spend the night in a national park. You can easily brave the rainy season with a rain poncho - on sale locally. Provide a scarf and long trousers or skirt if you are visiting temples, and some more closed clothing if you want to participate in a night safari. But also don't forget that fancy top and colourful shirt if you want to shine in a swinging nightclub. Last but not least: don't forget that passport and visa!
