An OFYR caterer at the heart of the celebration
The open-fire cooking takes place in full view of the guests, rather than out of sight. This naturally encourages spontaneous conversations. Eline explains: “Today, many couples want to serve a barbecue at their wedding. We almost always prepare ours on an OFYR. The result is more refined, and guests are impressed straight away. We even catered a wedding with two OFYR areas: one during the reception, and another during dinner served as a walking dinner. It really became part of the celebration.”
The fire naturally brings guests together and encourages conversation, Eline explains: “The chef is right among the guests. They come over to watch, ask questions and strike up conversations. Everything is cooked on site. It offers a completely different experience, both for you and your guests.”

The difference between an OFYR and a barbecue
Although both an OFYR and a barbecue use an open fire, the former calls for a different approach. “When you have a barbecue at home, you’re more likely to go for a sausage or a skewer,” Eline explains. “For weddings, we choose more refined ingredients for the OFYR, such as scallops or squid. The pieces of meat or fish are also a little smaller because we cook on a round plate. It calls for a different way of preparing the food and organising the cooking.”

Creativity on the plate
The creative cuisine that defines Fruy Catering is also reflected in its OFYR offering. Eline explains: “When OFYR dishes are served at the table, we can often let our creativity run freer than with a buffet. We always make sure the plates are beautifully presented. Creativity also comes through in our choice of ingredients and unexpected combinations. The experience around the fire and the quality of the ingredients remain at the heart of this offering.”

The perfect setting
The surroundings also play an important role in the experience this offering provides. According to Eline, open-fire cooking comes into its own in a natural, spacious setting. “I think an OFYR looks particularly beautiful in a square farmhouse or a large garden,” she says. “This rural setting is perfect for a garden party or a picnic atmosphere. When there’s plenty of space around the fire, it creates a welcoming place where guests can gather. That enhances the experience of the celebration as a whole.”
