1. Be the first to arrive
Very important to know: make an appointment as early as possible! There is a maximum number of orders that bakers can take. With our suppliers, quality always takes precedence over quantity. Customers are therefore advised to visit their favourite baker as soon as the date of their wedding is known. Some dates are so popular that they are already fully booked a year in advance. For quieter periods, it is advisable to plan 6 to 9 months in advance.
2. Brainstorming
Once you've made your appointment, start thinking about the type of wedding cake you'd like for your group. Although this may seem difficult so early on, it's important that you can give some indication on the day of the appointment. What's more, if you're not sure which option to choose, you can ask your pastry chef any questions you may have. He or she will be happy to advise you.
3. Choosing and mixing
You can't choose a wedding cake from a distance. It's important to visit the baker of your choice. Firstly, of course, to taste different flavours, but also because it ‘s easier to discuss essential issues face to face. For example, it's very important that your baker knows how many guests will be coming to your wedding and what your budget is. Often, an initial design is already drawn up on site, which requires the couple's input. So it's important that you already have an idea on the day of your appointment. Based on what you have agreed that day, your baker will draw up a no-obligation quote.
4. Add accents
Once you have a general idea of your wedding cake, you can of course add a few details later. You could, for example, ask your baker for edible flowers or order a decoration. Let your cake maker know about these things at least 2 to 3 months in advance, so that they can take them into account, both for time management and for the final offer.
5. Day of delivery
Last but not least: as the date of your wedding draws nearer, it's important to call your patissier to discuss how your wedding day will go. Agree on the delivery address and ask when your wedding cake will be delivered. You can plan this into your schedule.
6. Presentation is essential
Finally, agree with your wedding venue how your cake will be presented at the party. Do they provide a table that can be rolled inside? Is there enough room for the cake? Take a good look at all this before your wedding day to make sure everything goes smoothly!
