1. Primer

A primer helps you keep all make-up in place, and smooth fine lines and pores. Favourites from my personal collection are the Laura Mercier primers. Choose a primer adapted to your skin type and use a specific primer for eyelids, lips and face.

2. Fond de Teint

For your bridal make-up, be careful with fond de teints that contain an SPF higher than 10. These will not always give the best effect in combination with photos taken with flash. Opt for a silicone-based fond de teint for longer-lasting results - for example, MUD has some great silicone-based cream foundations. This way, you minimise the number of touch-ups required. Don't forget to powder off - I'm a fan of Sisley powder - this is essential to fix your fond de teint, but remember... less is more!

3. Eyebrows

Get your eyebrows touched up a few days before your wedding, and touch them up with a natural colour that matches your brow hairs. Well-tweezed eyebrows lift your eyes. They contribute to a fresh and complete look.

4. Eye shadow

Check beforehand which colours suit you best. Harsh and severe colours should be avoided - they can look very unflattering in photos. Go for soft tones such as brown, purple or peach to create an open look.

5. Eyeliner

Whether you go for a liquid eyeliner, a pencil or eye shadow - choose a contrasting colour. A plum colour or dark greys and browns always do well. If you want a soft look, prefer to avoid black. Don't make hard lines under your eyes, it will give you a stern and more quickly tired look. Waterproof is a must!

6. Mascara

For an instant lifting effect, use an eyelash curler on dry and clean lashes. I personally cannot live without my Shu Uemura eyelash curler! Make sure your mascara is waterproof - Givenchy Noir Couture is my personal favourite. Optionally, add a few more false eyelashes on the outside of your eye - for that extra touch of glamour!

7. Cheeks

Choose a colour that approximates your natural blush. Cream blushes are easy to apply and give a natural result. Above the cream blush you can apply a powder blush, so it will last longer. Finally, a day with lots of hugs and kisses awaits you! Make sure you apply the blush in the right place to create an optical lifting effect.

8. Lips

Use a good lip primer, and colour in your lips with a lip pencil. Then use a moisturising lipstick. Guerlain's Rouge G. comes highly recommended. Choose the same shade for your lip pencil and lipstick, and keep your lipstick handy on your wedding day.
