1. Choose outdoors
A festival-style wedding just has to happen outdoors. A green meadow or a large park are undoubtedly top locations. Because Belgium, even in the summer months, does not guarantee good weather, it is a good idea to provide a large tent. Or find a location with a barn, so you can keep it dry - even in rainy weather - at all times.
2. Music, maestro
No festival (wedding) without music! Provide a stage, a good light and sound system and a live band that immediately brings atmosphere. Check the noise pollution regulations beforehand. Warn any neighbors about loud music until the early hours, and invite them to join you for part of your party. Goodwill guaranteed!
3. Easy party outfit
That casual, boho dress in which you can move freely is definitely the best choice for your festival wedding. Leave your pumps aside, and slip sandals, flip flops or sneakers on your feet. Or just go barefoot to your festival! Your groom also goes for easy and casual. How about a nice suit, but with a hip t-shirt underneath and colorful sneakers?
Of course, you prefer that your guests celebrate in the same atmosphere. Give them a dress code so they know what to wear, and place next to the stage or at your "entrance" a large basket of colorful slippers from which your guests can choose a pair themselves. Or provide sunglasses in the craziest colors? Extra fun if you have the slippers and sunglasses personalized with your names and wedding date!
4. From posters to admission tickets
You can also completely immerse your stationery in festival atmosphere. Send your guests an invitation in the form of an entrance ticket, turn your ceremony booklet with lyrics and songs into a program booklet, have wristbands made with your names and wedding date on them and hand them out to your guests at the start of your party, or send them along with the invitation. On your wedding day hang up posters with what your guests can expect that day, and have a mega big and uber cute chalkboard above the bar with a list of all the drinks.
5. Informal dining
At a festival wedding, you mainly think of masses of food trucks and drink stands. Or provide a big barbecue or picnic. Anything that can be eaten casual and 'off the cuff' will absolutely score
6. TOP atmosphere
Immerse your party in festival mood with masses of lights, lanterns and flags in the trees. Place torches and fire bowls on your festival grounds for extra romance after the sun goes down. If you go for lots of color, you will create a cheerful, casual atmosphere. If you choose one color, say white, then you create a bigger wedding party feeling and a magical, more romantic atmosphere. The choice is yours!
Furthermore, you guarantee a top atmosphere on your 'festival meadow' with nice wooden signposts and atmospheric corners with beach chairs or beanbags, and with wooden tables where your guests can sit and rest their dancing legs. Music is undoubtedly the biggest mood creator, but how about a banging and brilliant fireworks display around midnight? Also be sure to check here what is legally possible and allowed.
7. Tents in the meadow
Ask your guests to bring a tent, or provide enough tents yourself and create a real festival meadow with a "sleeping corner" where all the tents are set up around a large campfire. Do provide basic facilities such as toilets and shower facilities. Extra fun? The next morning, organize a big breakfast on a picnic blanket for all the 'sleepers' or have everyone sit at the wooden tables. Great for all of you to chat afterward, keeping your party feeling longer.
Cross your fingers voor mooi, zwoel zomerweer!
