When Belgians have something to celebrate, they enjoy good food, drink, and festivities. Wedding celebrations are no exception. A significant amount of time and attention is devoted to selecting the caterer, and a large portion of the budget is typically allocated to catering. We have identified the latest trends in wedding catering and are pleased to share them with you!
Walking Dinner
Unlike the traditional three- (or more) course menu, a walking dinner offers several small dishes, tapas, or appetizers instead of three large courses. The service is similar to what we are used to in a restaurant (walk to you), or in the form of a buffet where guests line up. Guests do not sit down at a table, but walk around freely and can sometimes take a seat at a few high tables. Want that little bit extra? Ask a chef to do some live cooking on site. Spectacle guaranteed!
Food Trucks & Mobile Bars
Since 2012, the food truck – originating in the United States – has also been gaining popularity here. In 2016, they are popping up like mushrooms, and an original food concept is not far to seek. Immerse your guests in a festival atmosphere, let them enjoy a delicious gourmet burger or haute dog, Rock Werchter style, and accompany it all with delicious cocktails and mocktails. Whether you simply want to hire a mobile bar with cava and oysters at the church, or you want to transform your entire wedding party into a food truck fiesta... There's something for everyone!
Shared plates
Food brings people together. So why not sit down together at the table, where different dishes are presented on large platters that you share tapas-style? Shared plates are hot and happening, and surprisingly fun at a wedding party!
Brunch reception
Is dancing and swinging until the early hours not really your thing? Then consider holding a brunch reception. Brunch—the trendy little sister of lunch—is a rewarding way to enjoy a long and convivial meal with all your guests. Also suitable for the “morning after”... ideal for quietly enjoying your first day as newlyweds!
Dessert party
In a dessert party scenario, the focus of the wedding party is mainly on the dance party, which starts later in the evening. Invite your guests at around 9 p.m. and treat them to delicious sweets. Fun dessert tables with colorful cupcakes, macarons with your logo or initials on them, a hand-painted wedding cake, profiteroles, waffles, and pancakes, all fantastically styled. The sky's the limit!
Flemish Foodies effect
Belgians are spoiled when it comes to cuisine. The standard of our restaurateurs is excellent, and since the arrival of many TV chefs, Belgians' gastronomic reflexes have only increased. As a result, many people have higher expectations, even when it comes to wedding catering. We are also seeing caterers serving increasingly refined, sometimes Michelin-star-worthy dishes. Why not try some molecular cuisine at your wedding reception?
